The work of Eviva is strongly based on recent research using a complex activity framework to examine the dynamics of human activity, the use of social technologies and techniques, and evolving cultural awareness, knowledge and practices. From an activity perspective, thinking, feeling and acting are all a part of human consciousness and each person interprets and responds uniquely to situations according to:
Their knowledge, past experience, and capabilities.
The rules, roles and culture of the context
Their personal goal (object) for thinking, feeling and acting
The tools they are using
Our research suggests that:
New networked interactive technologies have emerged from new needs for more mobile and complex interaction, negotiation and social support.
They are changing the ways we think, understand and respond to complex situations
Team work for small independent work units is the best context for innovation, high levels of motivation, learning, and creative problem solving.
Most recently we are researching the use of adult play as an effective and low risk context for learning.
Eviva remains involved in networks of technical and social innovation. The company has strong collaborative links with a number of universities in Australia and overseas. In particular, collaboration with the University of Wollongong, has enabled knowledge building in the rapidly changing field of networked 'social technologies'. The Eviva network now includes many innovative companies, organizations, and community groups who are pursuing new initiatives and working collaboratively to enhance their capabilites, achieve effective innovation, and create a successful future.
An important new resource are the increasing number of enabling web-based groups who are sharing their expertise through social technologies and creative commons style licencing arrangements for emerging intellectual property.
